How do I drill a hole in a ceramic piece?

Drilling holes

To drill a hole in a fired ceramic item, it is important to use a diamond head drill bit. Stuff the item with material, this reduces the shock to the ware, drill slowly and firmly, as any hammering of the drill could crack the piece.

Totally forget using a diamond head drill bit. Its only good for drilling holes into bisqueware. Anything higher in firings is a waste of dril bits and money and especially time. The best drill bit to use, and it will drill through virtually any high fired ceramic work, is a glass drill bit. Drill bits for drilling holes into glass is the ticket. Drills through like poking holes into butter. Why nobody else has discovered this is beyond funny. Trust me on this. I have used highly expensive drill diamond head drill bits to drill through stoneware, and they blunt after the 1st hole. Even then it only just did it. Using a drill bit thats designed for glass is soooooo much easier, smoother, safer. Afterall its almost consist of the same ingredient (silicon). Never use a diamond drill bit again, never.
