February 9, 2007, Newsletter Issue #228: Press release: give the media what it wants

Tip of the Week

In your release, give the media what it wants:

Create concise and well-written copy
Explain who, what, when, where, why, and how.
Get to the point quickly.
Write for media needs—not organizational egos.
Do not go over three pages in length (less is more)
Use active rather than passive tense (when possible)
Use tenses that agree (will announce, announced)
