What is overglaze/lustre?
Overglaze refers to the group of colours which are applied to a previously glazed and fired surface.
liquid bright gold
The best known of the overglaze decorations is liquid bright gold which is a true solution of gold in solvents and oils
sponge to apply an overglaze
If you want to use a sponge to apply an overglaze, allow the lustre or metallic to thicken slightly by exposing a small amount to the air and allowing a little evaporation. The thickened material will hold the sponge pattern after application
Troubleshooting: White spots
White spots, or spots of glaze colour showing through your overglaze, are caused by moisture present on the object when the overglaze was applied.
overglaze marbleizer
An overglaze marbleizer is a special effect product that is used with other metallic and lustre overglazes. It is applied over other products and when fired produces a star burst, spider web effect. You cannot apply marbleizer to an overglazed piece until the other overglazes are completely dry.
drying overglazes
All overglazes should be allowed to dry for at least 24 hours before firing.
